Fujifilm 23mm F/1.4 Lens: The Street Photographer’s New Best Friend

Fujifilm 23mm F/1.4 Lens: The Street Photographer’s New Best Friend

Fuji knows that a lens ecosystem is one of the most important things when choosing a camera to invest in. That’s why it’s full speed ahead in developing options for its stylish X series of mirrorless cameras. The new 23mm f/1.4 prime lens is yet another piece of quality glass for the stable.

The 23mm f/1.4 should be great for street photography, with a standard ‘walkaround’ focal length, equivalent to 35mm on a full-frame sensor. That particular focal length is wide enough to capture a broad scope at close distances, but won’t introduce much distortion. The lens has a depth-of-field scale on the barrel for zone-focusing, and while not a pancake lens, should be fairly light and compact, with four lens elements inside. The price is a hefty $US899. Not cheap, but definitely indicative of quality optics within.

With Sony, Panasonic, Olympus and Fuji vying for supremacy, it’s not an easy decision which lens ecosystem to buy into. Fuji certainly knows who they are targeting with the consistent rollout of fast prime lenses. Their lineup now includes focal lengths of 14, 18mm, 23mm, 27mm, 35mm, 60mm, as well as a few zooms going up to 200mm. Not a whole lot of gaps left to fill!
