BlackBerry Z30: Can This 5-Incher Win People Back?

While there have been leaks aplenty over the last few months, BlackBerry has now officially announced the successor to its all-touch Z10. Say hello to the Z30.

To be honest, it matches up fairly closely with what we’ve seen already. Externally, it measures 140.7mm x 72mm x 9.4 mm. Inside, it packs a 5-inch 1280×720 Super AMOLED display, a dual-core 1.7 GHz Snapdragon S4 Pro chip, 2GB RAM, Adreno 320 GPU and 16GB of storage. That’s all powered by a 2880mAh battery.

In terms of cameras, there’s an 8MP rear facer which captures video at 1080p, and a 2MP front facer that manages 720p video. In terms of connectivity, it will support 4G LTE, dual-band WiFi a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and NFC. It’s the first phone to ship with version 10.2 of the BB 10 OS, which offers a few notable software upgrades. So, there’s BB Priority Hub — a bit like Gmail’s Priority Inbox, applied across all your communication — and broad enhancement to message previews and BBM, among other things.

Currently, there are no pricing details available. It will first land in the Middle East and UK sometime next week, but should be available here before the new year. [Engadget]
