This Petrol-Powered Surfboard Can Hit 56km/h Without A Single Wave

If you’ve dreamed of becoming a surfer but don’t live anywhere close to waves big enough to ride, that’s no longer a problem. The JetSurf board promises to turn anyone into a Big Kahuna, even on the calmest of lakes, thanks to a built-in 100cc petrol engine that can propel the board up to 56km/h.

Made from carbon fibre and kevlar the boards are strong, but thanks to the compact two-stroke engine inside they aren’t exactly light, weighing in at around 14kg. However they still float, which is the most important thing, and on a full tank you can expect to cruise for over an hour whether laying down boogie board style, or standing like a true surfer.

And while $US16,000 to surf anywhere, anytime, might seem expensive, it’s not like living near the coast so you can always be near the waves is cheap either. [JetSurf via Wired]
