The Kindle Fire HD is the Amazon tablet for most people. Last year, it was just $US40 more than the improved-but-uh-why-would-you-buy-this-again second gen Kindle Fire 2. BGR has an unconfirmed report, though, that last year’s Fire HD is this year’s Fire is very confusing for everyone, probably.
There are already reports of the new Fire HD’s guts floating around, but there really wasn’t a guarantee the Fire would make the cut this year. Why not just stick last year’s model into that slot, and sell the new ones? Well, that’s what happened. According to the report, the new $US170 Fire will be stylistically similar to last year’s Fire HD, and have the old Fire HD’s guts — TI OMAP4 4470 processor with PowerVR SGX544 graphics. The report also claims it will have 1GB of RAM and run on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, with a 1,280 x 800 resolution screen, same as this year’s Fire. In fact, aside from the operating system, there is nothing in the report differentiating it from the Fire HD this year. [BGR]
