From One Second To The Next: Werner Herzog’s Texting-and-Driving PSA

Acclaimed documentarian Werner Herzog has taken on some pretty remarkable subjects during his 50-year career, ranging from Antarctic scientists to Grizzly Man. His latest film, though, is about something much more familiar: Texting and driving. Yet it’s no less intense.

Herzog, who worked at AT&T on the project, released the 30-minute mini-doc online this week. “What AT&T proposed immediately clicked and connected inside of me,” Herzog told the AP. “There’s a completely new culture out there. I’m not a participant of texting and driving — or texting at all — but I see there’s something going on in civilisation which is coming with great vehemence at us.”

It’s a characteristically Herzogian take on the subject, a brutally honest depiction of the dangers of a still-ubiquitous behaviour — one that lawmakers have had a hard time quelling with conventional PSAs. It’s definitely not easy to watch — but that’s as it should be. [Associated Press]
