The Cross-Section Of Golf Balls Look Like They’re From Outer Space

What is this? A pint of dragon fire ice cream? An alien planet model? Speckled clay? Amazingly, it’s the cross section of a golf ball. Photographer, James Friedman, captured the innards of different golf balls and unexpectedly revealed a core that look more like they’re from outer space than anything in this world.

The golf balls are all uniquely different, some look more like what you’d expect — a giant centre with obvious layers — while others seem like mixed putty. James Friedman describes his Interior Design photo series:

“Curiosity led me to cut my collection of golf balls in half to see what the cores looked like. To my surprise, what I found inside inspired me to consider that I could discover, in the unlikeliest of places, elegant formal qualities and surprising metaphorical possibilities. Interior Design has moved me to be enthusiastic about abstraction, an exciting corollary to my work as a documentary photographer.”
