Hold A Satellite In Your Palm With These Pint-Sized Wood Models

Russia’s radio telescope, Speckt-R, currently holds the record for the largest satellite orbiting Earth, weighing in at around 5000kg. But thanks to the magical product designers at Postlerferguson, you can now fit a Speckt-R on your desk — along with three other iconic unmanned spacecraft.

Postlerferguson (aka British design duo Ian Ferguson and Martin Postler) sell their wares online through their e-commerce site, Papafoxtrot. They make a whole collection of wooden models that replicate real-world engineering phenoms, including Emma Maersk, one of the largest cargo ships on Earth. Last year, they branched into unmanned spacecraft, which proved to be wildly popular for kids and adults alike. Now, their models are sold at London Design Museum.

A few highlights, beyond the massive Speckt-R, include the ORS-1, a three-pronged orbital radio telescope that serves America with reconnaissance data, and the Geotail, a spindly white ‘bot that observes the Earth’s magnetosphere. [Papafoxtrot]
