Retractable Bike Scooter: A Delightfully Dangerous Bonding Opportunity

Retractable Bike Scooter: A Delightfully Dangerous Bonding Opportunity

Unless you’re riding a tandem, bicycles aren’t really designed for two passengers. You can jam a child seat on the back for infants, or a couple of pegs on the back wheel to carry a friend, but neither of those solutions seem as novel or original as Jared Loveless’s scooteRack: a rear-mounted retractable scooter that serves as a trailer for passengers.

Wearing the proper gear, the scooteRack is probably considerably safer than having a passenger perch on your handlebars, as long as the bike maintains a reasonable speed. Unlike a tandem, when the scooter is folded away, the bike is no longer than a standard model, making it easy to lock up and store. Now how’s about building and selling a few of these so the rest of us can have fun too, Jared?
