Telstra Launches Its First 4G Ultrabook/Tablet

The Toshiba Portégé Z10t ultrabook/laptop hybrid will be available on Telstra’s 4G network from 11 June, the telco announced today. The convertible laptop device is being billed as the world’s first Windows® 8 Pro ultrabook-tablet with 4G functionality.

The Toshiba Portégé Z10t boasts an 11.6 inch HD touchscreen running the Pro version of Windows 8. Its main claim to fame is its 4G LTE functionality and detachable backlit keyboard which allows it to transform into a Windows 8 tablet. It also comes with an Intel Celeron CPU, 4GB of RAM and a 128GB solid state drive.

“The Portégé Z10t running on the Telstra Mobile Network is the perfect solution for people who don’t want to juggle multiple devices,” claimed Toshiba Australia’s managing director Mark Whittard.

“[Its] versatility as both a tablet and a powerful PC eliminates the compromises faced with other offerings in the market such as network speed, device performance and simply, the number of devices you need to carry.”

The Portégé Z10t will be available on a range of Telstra consumer plans including $90 per month over 24 months which comes with 8GB of monthly data to use in Australia (minimum total cost: $2160). A beefier Core i5 version is also available for business users, with prices starting at $90 per month.

In addition, Telstra is offering a Portégé Z10t ‘Entertainer Max’ bundle, which includes 200GB of home broadband, 500MB of mobile broadband, a T-Box with Foxtel and home phone service for $185 a month. This works out to a minimum of $4499 over two years.

Customers on other 4G networks will able to get their hands on the device from October. Alternatively, you can buy the Z10t direct from Toshiba and its retail partners, with prices starting at $1199.

Earlier in the month, Toshiba also released its flagship Windows 8 ultrabook “KIRA”; a 13.3in touchscreen laptop with an Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, a 256GB mSATA SSD, Harmon Kardon surround sound speakers and a backlit keyboard. You can see a video of the KIRA in action here.
