Casa Olivi is 300 years old, but after a massive renovation project at the hands of Swiss architects Markus Wespi and Jérôme de Meuron, it doesn’t look a day over 100. Located near the town of Treia in the Marche region of Italy, the house sits high up on a hill where it offers incredible 360-degree panoramic views.
It was mostly destroyed by a fire several years ago, and it took more than four years to remake. That’s because remodeling a three-century-old house is tricky — it’s protected by the Italian Culture and History Administration, so the architects had to take care to perfectly preserve the exterior, while turning the inside into an open, modern living space.
The three-storey house has been fitted with Phillipe Starck bathrooms, a home theatre, and an impressive infinity pool. It has five bedrooms and a former stable that’s been turned into a guesthouse. For dining en plein air, there’s a terrace on the property with a kitchen, grill and table for 12. Sounds pretty ideal, right? The best part is you can actually stay there and enjoy a little culture in an old place without having to rough it.
