LG’s Curved OLED TVs Are Actually Going On Sale

When LG showed off the first curved 3D OLED screen at CES earlier this year, it was exciting but seemed unrealistic as a commercial venture. But now LG has announced that it’s planning to sell the curvy TV.

LG’s Vice President of Home Entertainment Europe, Thomas Lee, has confirmed that the curved OLED TVs will launch some time in the second half of this year. That will probably be in South Korea at first, but by no means is it limited to the country of origin. Our very own Mario Aguilar was pretty jazzed when he saw the TVs at CES earlier this year:

I just saw a crazy setup of three of these 55-inch beauties aligned side-by-side into a perfect cinematic curve. The effect is very dramatic. This could be the whole reason 3D and curved OLED exist… The content doesn’t pop out at you the way some people imagine 3D. Rather, the panel’s curve pulls you in. With three lined up into a mega curved 3D OLED, the immersive effect is even more intense.

Back then, there were no plans for the TV to become a commercial reality. Clearly that’s changed. Fancy an IMAX in your own home? [Engadget]
