From the outside, this home looks sterile and dark. When you open the doors, however, it’s utterly bathed in light.
Located in Tokyo, the house was designed by Apollo Architects for an area ophthalmologist. The structure is all about testing the limits of its space, with gables that make it stretch all the way to the sky, and a reinforced concrete basement that dives down into the depths.
These features — along with various courtyards, giant windows and wooden screens — work to open up the house, diffusing light throughout. And it makes it seem bigger and airier than you might expect.
