Sydney Gaymers March In The 2013 Sydney Mardi Gras Parade [Updated]

A few weeks ago, we brought you the amazing story of the Sydney Gaymers: a LGBTQI gaming collective founded as a safe space for gay gamers to meet and enjoy socialising and, of course, console, PC, card and tabletop games. Sydney Gaymers were set to be the first gay gaming collective to march in the Sydney Mardi Gras, and march they did. See the photos here.

Thanks to Joshua Meadows of Sydney Gaymers for these shots of the parade. Here’s what he had to say about the march:

I think the most amazing thing about the parade for me was how many people did a double-take of sorts as we came into view. People were cheering in general just because of the atmosphere of the parade itself, but when they saw us there was a pause and a moment of recognition and then everyone went wild. Total strangers screaming “Gaymers!!!” was completely awesome to experience. Ultimately we wouldn’t have been able to do this without the hard work of everyone in the group who came to fundraiser events or sat down to help build the float, and I was completely moved to see how much support we had. I’m so proud of everyone and I hope our presence at the parade showed that there’s a place for everyone.
