Believe it or not, this is a picture of the great Alexander Graham Bell kissing his wife within a tetrahedral kite in 1903. It’s quite eccentric, and it’s a nice reminder of the human side of technological pioneers.
In fact, the image is taken from National Geographic’s new Tumblr, called Found, which showcase some of the most weird and wonderful shots from the magazine’s archive. National Geographic explains:
Found is a curated collection of photography from the National Geographic archives. In honour of our 125th anniversary, we are showcasing photographs that reveal cultures and moments of the past. Many of these photos have never been published and are rarely seen by the public.
As for Alexander and his wife, Mabel, there was a long and successful romance: they married on July 11, 1877, just a few days after the Bell Telephone Company was established, and they spent much of their time together until his death in Nova Scotia, Canada, at age 75. [Found via The Verge]
