HTC One Is Delayed Because Suppliers Think HTC Isn't A Top-Tier Company

The HTC One, the beautiful beast of an Android phone, is delayed because suppliers no longer consider HTC a "tier one company". Component companies only seem to care about working with Apple and Samsung, which means that we're going to have to wait a little longer to get our hands on the best Android phone right now.

An HTC executive in a surprisingly forthright quote to the Wall Street Journal says:

"The company has a problem managing its component suppliers as it has changed its order forecasts drastically and frequently following last year's unexpected slump in shipments. HTC has had difficulty in securing adequate camera components as it is no longer a tier-one customer."

It's surprising, because, for one, an HTC executive is totally admitting that HTC is no longer on the same level as Apple and Samsung to suppliers, because its sales have been sucking. It's also surprising, because, if HTC, which is decidedly in third place in the smartphone wars, isn't a tier-one customer, then it just leaves us with a two-horse race.

To be fair, Samsung and Apple have separated from the pack for a while, but it's unfortunate that what could be the best smartphone is being pushed back because suppliers only care about getting components to two companies now. [WSJ]

Nothing shakes my faith in humanity more than the fact that Samsung and Apple sell more phones than HTC.

I'm not mad, I'm just very disappointed.

Im not really suprised, in all honesty my experience with HTC has been nothing but bad.
Original Desire touch screen died twice.
My missus Desire HD the screen died on 2 seperate phones (proper died)
All HTC's i've used or seen used have horrible battery life, after 5 months the battery barely lasts a day with minimal use. (i've had 3 for work in the last 3 years)
The lack of expandable memory is also a big hit
And HTC sense isn't something i enjoy using
I do admit that most HTC's look incredible and the build quality feels great.

i've had an SGS2 for 2 years now, the battery still lasts me 2 days before needing a charge, its been dropped, kicked, bounced and i've never had any issues with it.

And yet my HD2 is still going strong after about 4 years or more, and the battery generally lasts a couple of days. Love sense too.

Drastic changes in forecasts are a big deal for a manufacturer, especially if that change is down - this usually means you're left with a lot of surplus stock that you have to sell off at a greatly reduced margin or even at a loss.

And if you're a manufacturer, are you going to give preferential supply to the customer whose business has been dropping over the last 12 months and cannot meet forecasts, or the customer whose business is consistent or growing, and is also one of your biggest customers.

In any case, a HTC executive is admitting that HTC is no longer on the same level as Apple and Samsung simply stating the obvious.

I would have bought this phone if weren't for the camera and HTC still not putting expandable memory in their phones.

Its a sexy phone .. to bad I am one of those guys who buys based on the overall package and performance and not just on esthetics's.

The camera is one of the best bits. Although megapixels sell, they're hardly an indicator of image quality (despite what the marketing would have you believe). HTC have made a bold move in going 4MP in order to increase low light performance.

Actually the camera is getting very mixed reviews .. its not a bold move at all its a move they had to make because as this article states

“The company has a problem managing its component suppliers as it has changed its order forecasts drastically and frequently following last year’s unexpected slump in shipments. HTC has had difficulty in securing adequate camera components as it is no longer a tier-one customer.”

.. HTC have taken a huge risk with this ( self described ) ultrapixel technology .. I think in the end it will put them even further down the list of secondary tier manufacturers.

I am also willing to get the HTC one camera will not stand up to the Galaxy s4's when the comparisons are done.

"Best Android phone right now" is debatable according to performance benchmarks... http://bgr.com/2013/03/19/galaxy-s-4-iphone-5-comparison-performance-385274/

Wow .. and that comparison is only based on the S4 with the quad core snap dragon .. imagine the numbers with the 8 core euro s4 .. the one doesn't stand a chance.

From what's been said so far there want be much of difference. Not all 8 cores function at once it basically 2x quad cores. One runs during heavy ussage and runs at higher GHz while the other quad core runs during less intense activities has lower GHz. Its basically battery saving feature more than significant gain in performance. It very well could be that snap dragon actually runs faster.

I think the benchmarks on the 8 core chip will prove you wrong. If your on google+ take a look at this screen shot of the s4 benchmark score running the 8 core chip .. 11,700 on quadrant .. and as you'll see in the pic in the link .. its double the htc one's score.

No i think you read it wrong.. It didnt beat the htc one! the htc one isnt even on there! that the htc one X.. another user was saying the htc one scored 12,000 beating the s4.

I got a feeling samsung wouldnt be giving some markets a processor twice as powerful as other markets. It would be shooting themselves in the foot.

I think best in terms of all-round, aesthetics, performance, price etc. Most people do not use their mobile phones for Astro Physics applications. Most mobile phone users are just average day to day task type people. You must be sadly mistaken if you think most mobile phone users must have hexa-core 2.7 ghz Gorilla Glass7 with 5 gigs ram. That's just the Koreans.

HTC is doing well in the quality built and specs but last year all of the HTC failed to compete siii in terms of speed and. Fluid response to the applications . This year they got everything perfect but dropped pixels down to 4 mp I recken they should put at least 8 mo sensor like Nokia did with lumia 920 good low light performance camera. Most of thenormal users will just go in the shops and ask for 8,no or above camera . And buy it .
Again the performance actually will be only co.firmed after s iv release . To check the speed and. Bla bla things.
    better wait and see

But according to the reviews and specs looks compete with most of the top

Posting this from my perfectly fine HTC one x would be Posting from a HTC one but suppliers are retarded. All Samsung galaxy's I have had have been disappointing and rather shit. I had my wife get a one x so I could swap her a iPhone for it.
