Google’s Map data is generally held to be the best around, but not so much once you’re off the streets. If you’re in (mostly) New South Wales or Victoria, though, you’ve now got a new set of tools at your disposal, as Google’s announced it’s offering indoor maps for Google Maps For Android covering more than 200 locations across both states, as well as just a few from other states.

Yeah, it’s mostly shopping centres, and it’s not really hard to work out why. Shopping centres have the most to gain by enticing customers in, so it makes sense that they’d share their mapping data around far and wide.
Google specifically notes the Eastern seaboard nature of its current data in the official press release, but then Adelaide Airport is listed, and the last time I checked, that was most definitely in South Australia. I’m also bemused by the inclusion of IKEA stores, though, given the whole IKEA experience is built around you going through a very set path of displays, only to emerge the other side with a sawdust hot-dog and some shelves under your arm. Somehow, I doubt they’ve mapped that.
