The Xperia Z is Sony’s attempt to get in front of the crowd by pushing a top-shelf handset before everyone at Mobile World Congress gets the chance.

It’s packing a 5-inch 1080×1920 (1080p) HD Reality Display, a 13-megapixel camera with noise reduction tech, a 1.5GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor and 2GB of RAM.

It also has a nifty little feature that turns off a lot of the data the phone pulls down when you lock the screen up. It’s called Stamina Mode and Sony claims it extend the battery life by up to 4-times.

The Xperia Z is also water and dust resistant like its younger brother, the Sony Xperia go.

The Xperia Z will land in Australia in March. No word yet on pricing.

Stay tuned for a hands-on later this afternoon.
