Say Hi To The New Google Chrome Beta, It’s Listening

Voice control has been the trend in phones for a while now, but it’s not content to just stay there. The newest Chrome Beta 25 is introducing a Web Speech API, which means a talk-y future is on the horizon, hopefully.

So far, Google has a demo where you can dictate a little messages for your web browser, but it’s just that: a demo. The functionality is promising, but its real potential is all in what developers do with it. Considering the wide array of useful, wacky, and usefully wacky Chrome extensions out there, it’s a pretty safe bet that this will wind up being pretty cool sooner or later.

If you want to try it out, you can go snag Chrome Beta 25 here. And then, once you’re set up, you can yell at your computer a bit until you get bored of the demo, and then wait for cool stuff to start happening. Get on it, devs. Please and thank you. [Google]
