Recycling. Sustainability. Lamps made of egg cartons. Sure, why not? These fixtures aren’t actually built from the things that once carried your unfertilised baby chickens, they were crafted out of similar cardboard material.
Designed by Valentina Carretta for Seletti, The Egg of Columbus has a shade made of coarse, moisture-resistant paper. Apparently the name was inspired by explorer Christopher Columbus. After people brushed off the discovery of America as no biggie, challenged haters to make an egg stand on its end. After they couldn’t do it, Columbus made the egg stand himself by crushing the tip. Cool story and commentary on creativity, but a very formal name for a lamp made out of cardboard. [Dezeen]
