The Daily Is Dead

In what should be a shock to no-one, News Corp's experiment in iPad-only publishing is set to officially close down on December 15.

The Daily was troubled all through the year and survived by the skin of its teeth to cover the US Presidential Elections in November.

Here's Rupert Murdoch's statement, as reported by Associated Press:

<blockquoteFrom its launch, The Daily was a bold experiment in digital publishing and an amazing vehicle for innovation. Unfortunately, our experience was that we could not find a large enough audience quickly enough to convince us the business model was sustainable in the long-term.

It was a terribly ambitious venture in digital publishing and one that hopefully will rise again for News Corporation. We need more beautiful things when it comes to digital publishing.
