Regardless of how you feel about the practice of Instagramming natural disasters, it’s super popular. In fact, with a whopping 800,000 photos tagged with her name, Sandy was almost certainly the most Instagrammed thing ever.
Instagram’s CEO Kevin Systrom dropped the massive number during a talk at GigaOM RoadMap, and if that number in a vacuum isn’t enough for you here’s some context; the Systrom said the Super Bowl only racked up 85,000. We’re talking an order of magnitude difference here. Then again, the Super Bowl has far fewer eye-witnesses than a coast-spanning superstorm. Considering how many people Sandy affected and how much horrific destruction she wrought, it’s not surprising. But is it impressive? Definitely. [Tim Bradshaw]
