How To Give A Keyboard FPS-Friendly Joystick Precision

Die-hard first-person-shooter fans might swear by the accuracy and precision of their PC keyboards. But those digital keys don’t provide as much finesse as the analogue joysticks on console controllers. So Ben Heck levels the playing field with this analogue keyboard hack.

Using a sacrificed Xbox 360 controller and a few other components, the W, A, S and D keys on this enhanced keyboard now register varying degrees of pressure. So gently hitting a key causes the player to slowly creep forward, while pressing it all the way down triggers a run. But if it can be further hacked to only type in caps when you’re angrily pounding away on the keyboard, then we’re really onto something here.
