Google Is Shutting Down Motorola’s Country-Specific Websites

Earlier this year Google made it clear that it was planning to make dramatic cuts at Motoola Mobility. Well, the first major change to affect consumers is here: Google is axing Moto’s country-specific websites.

The Next Web reports that sites in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Hong Kong and Taiwan have all been shut down. The sites offer up an apology which follows the form:

We are streamlining our business and support systems, and unfortunately, we’ll no longer have a dedicated website for [insert region here!]. Your local support sites… will remain open, well into the future, and we’ll continue to provide support for our products.

With Motorola continuing to struggle, it seems Google is doing what it can to stop the company — in reality purchased for its IP — to stop haemorrhaging cash. It will need to do more than shut down a few websites though. [The Next Web]
