What Is This?

The grain gives away that it’s obviously made of wood, but what is this tshirt-shaped slab of lumber supposed to be? The latest in eco-friendly fashion? An alternative to undershirts that’s easy to clean with a sanding block? Not even close.

Designed by Benjamin Hubert, this strategically sliced wooden panel is actually the backrest and seat for his beautiful Pelt chair. It’s only about a quarter of an inch thick so the panel bends and contorts to look like it’s almost been draped over the chair’s wooden frame and legs. The resulting curves are not only lovely to look at, but the seat is probably incredibly comfy to sit on. There’s no word on pricing or availability, but it was apparently designed for Portuguese furniture maker De La Espada so you’ll want to hound them for details on when you can probably drop hundreds and hundreds of dollars on one.
