This Is Why Today’s Record-Breaking Supersonic Jump Was Aborted

Felix Baumgartner’s jump from the edge of space has been cancelled for the day due to high winds. Provided that the weather is all right, it will resume on Thursday (local time).

The jump was originally scheduled for 11.30pm AEDT, but less than ideal weather conditions postponed it until 3am this morning and then again to 4.30am. It was then pushed back another five minutes. But after so many delays and winds of around 27km/h, it was finally nixed.

Baumgartner was set to break many records, chief among them becoming the first man to break the speed of sound outside of a plane. Weather permitting, we’ll see if he can do it in two days.
