We’ve nearly been bludgeoned to death by the streaming music press releases in recent months, but this one is actually something you should take notice of. Holden this morning announced at the Motor Show that it’s introducing the MyLink system to Australia, which will bring the magic of apps like Stitcher, Pandora and TuneIn Radio to your dashboard.
The MyLink system is Holden’s latest salvo in the infotainment wars, and it allows Barina CDX owners (from November) to pair their smartphone to stream music via Bluetooth or auxiliary outlet and take calls while on the run.
MyLink will feature apps from Holden partners, too. You’ll only be able to use Stitcher Internet Radio at launch next month, but by next year, the MyLink service will include full Pandora compatibility and TuneIn Radio.
You’ll also soon be able to bring your own GPS solution to the new Barinas, too, with something called BringGo. It’s basically an app you download to your smartphone and stream to the MyLink-compatible touchscreen in your Barina.
No word on how the data will be managed at this stage. Best case is that Holden picks up the bill, and the worst case is that everything, including Pandora and Stitcher, gets streamed through your smartphone and you’re left worrying about your phone bill. Again.
