If famous works of art just aren’t hip and modern enough for you, there’s an app for that. ATART, an augmented reality app for iOS, will take those stuffy old static images and show you the GIFs they were always meant to be.
All you do is point your iPhone at the work in question, and it immediately comes alive on the screen. Supported pieces include such classics as the Mona Lisa, Vincent Van Gogh’s Sunflowers, the white rabbit from Alice in Wonderland, and even the cover of Radiohead’s Kid A.
If you’re actually seeing some of the original art in person, whipping out your phone for some GIF action might be in poor taste, but if you’re at your computer, settling for the cyber-version anyway, the effect could be pretty cool.
