Samsung’s New Galaxy Player: Giant But Not Super Awkward

If the whole phablet movement has got you down, the new Galaxy Player 5.8 might be able to escape your ire. With its not-quite 6-inch display, it’s a bit larger than the Galaxy Note, but a mere 8mm bigger than the rumoured size of the Galaxy Note II. And — to everyone’s relief — it’s not a phone.

The 5.8-inch tablet could fill an interesting niche for those who want to have something tablet-esque that they can still conceivably fit in a pocket. Basically, people who might be interested in a phablet if it wasn’t for the fact that you’re probably going to have to hold said phablet up to your ear at one point or another.

The new iPod Touch competitor has a 960×540 display, along with a front-facing camera, GPS and Wi-Fi support, a 2500mAh battery and a microSD card. As far as operating systems go, it’ll be running Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich. No word on when it’ll drop or how much it will cost when it does, but that’s bound to be cleared up at Samsung’s Galaxy Note II event this Wednesday in Berlin. So phablet haters, how do you feel about this size when you aren’t holding it up to your head? [Samsung Tomorrow via The Tech Block]
