Duchess House Is A Glittering Jewel Box Of A Country Retreat

Nestled in the heart of Duchess County, in upstate New York, Duchess House No 1. is an aluminium clad hideaway with a surprisingly warm and cozy interior.

This sustainable weekend retreat was designed by Grzywinski+Pons for a couple based in New York City.

Its exterior is clad in aluminium shingles and accented with IPE wood panels for sustainably harvest lumber. A small matching guest house sits on the property, designed to accomodate visitors as well as to be rented out on its own.

Inside, hot water is provided via on-demand water heaters, to minimize costs — and the floors are equipped to provide radiant heating or cooling as needed.

LED lighting, high efficiency appliances, dual flush toilets and low flow fixtures make the rest of the home’s interior both low maintenance and eco-friendly. Its bright white design aesthetic, along with strategically placed doors and windows, keep the rooms light and fresh. [Inhabitat]
