Download This iPhone Tethering App Before It Gets Pulled From The App Store

If you want an iPhone tethering app, go download DiscoRecorder, a $1.99 "voice recorder" app that 9to5Mac says comes with a hidden tethering feature. Yep, that means you can get your computer onto the internet with your iPhone's data connection. Sweet.

The video above explains how to set up the tethered connection but basically you're making a computer-to-computer network, connecting your iPhone, digging up an IP address and sharing a connection over a web proxy. To enable the tethering, it takes some careful tweaking, like renaming a recorded message "PearSauce269.aac" but hey it gets you online and makes you feel like a spy. Worth it! Act fast cause the app is probably going to get pulled soon. [DiscoRecorder via 9to5Mac]

Can we not simply use the built in tethering features?

Probably an American article intended for that audience only- because some of the telephone companies there make you pay extra to have simple features like this, a monthly fee or something.

Yeah, American telecoms charge you for using your phone's data allowance on your computer. I'm not sure why... just the way it is. I use my iPhone's built in tethering when I'm travelling with my laptop just fine.

How is this better than iOS's personal hotspot?

can't find it now, pulled out already?

whoops, i looked in the mac app store by accident, its still there :)

    Pointless for Australia.

Totally works! This will come in handy when I'm on the road but not around wifi.

Think this is US-centric. In Australia you can simply use the built-in personal hotspot feature. This feature is disabled by many US carriers.

Not entirely. Many prepaid customers can't use hotspot- for me it's really useful.

I'm prepaid in Australia so the tethering is disabled for me, this is very useful thank you, just downloaded it.
