This Forest Fire Can Be Seen From Space

The forest fires that forced 3000 residents from their homes late last month were visible from space at the time. NASA has used a one of its handy spacecraft to bring us this spectacular image.

NASA writes of the image:

The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Aqua satellite captured this natural-color image on June 30, 2012. Red outlines approximate the locations of active fires.

Sure it looks good from space, but our best wishes go out to those fighting these crazy fires. It's still serious stuff, after all. [NASA]

If I can see a tree in my backyard from space, a huge forest fire from space isn't really that impressive.

My barbecue is visible from space, the phrase mean nothing nowadays

      Thank the great ones.
I was going to say the same thing.

That said, I hope all the good folk working against fires like these get the job done and get home safely afterwards.

In addendum, maybe the phrase should now be "visible from space with the unaided eye"

          This ^

I think the eye would need significant aid to get there though!
How about, "In the event that you are launched in to space through a natural phenomena (sitting on a volcano) and you have sufficient time before you died, should you be above this area of the world you would glimpse this forest fire and then die horribly, unaided"

Well, you can have a space suit if you insist ... wimp ... :p jk
