Welcome to The Gizmodo Shooting Challenge, where Giz readers get to pit their photographic skills against each other for the admiration of their editors -- and for the last month -- the chance to win a Dell XPS 13 Ultrabook! Hurry! Entries close Tuesday morning!
Inspired by Intel, Ultrabooks are a new category of mobile PC that pack speedy Intel Core processors and boast Rapid Start technology for boot-up in seconds. That performance and a lightweight design make Ultrabooks a great choice for photographers looking for an editing studio, storage drive and entertainment hub on the go.
We're excited to give one away to Gizmodo’s Shooting Challenge community.
Valued at $1199, the Dell XPS 13 (pictured) packs an Intel Core i5 processor and 128GB solid-state drive. The 13.3-incher also has edge-to-edge Gorilla Glass and is just 6mm at its thinnest point.
Finalists: We also have one remote-controlled indoor airship (measuring 1.27m long) for each of the four finalists who don’t win the major prize. The Turbo Blimp is valued at $200, and you’ll need to visit your local party shop to have it inflated.
This Week's Challenge: Personal Style
OK, so this is final week to enter the Ultrabook Shooting Challenge. Inspired by this stylish new category of PC, this week's theme is Personal Style. What does that mean to you? A self portrait? Your favourite type of photography? A shot of something that makes you unique? It's up to you. It's a wide theme to allow everyone to enter no matter what type of camera you use. Just make sure your story about the photo reinforces why it represents your individual style - and make sure your photo is shot this week. No portfolio pics!
How Judging Works
For five weeks, Gizmodo readers will vote one weekly Shooting Challenge finalist through to the prize round to be judged and announced by Gizmodo editors on Wednesday June 27. This week’s entries close at 10am on Tuesday, June 19. Voting will begin at 11.30am on Tuesday, June 19, and close at 10am on Tuesday, June 26. Full terms and conditions.
1. The work must be your own. 2. Photos need to be taken the week of the contest. No portfolio shots please. Ensure EXIF info is intact. 3. Explain (briefly) the photography equipment, settings, technique and story behind the shot. Include your shooting summary (camera, lens, ISO, etc) in the body of the email along with a story of the shot in a few sentences. 4. Entries must be submitted via the entry form below. 5. Don’t forget to name your image attachment properly! Save your files as JPGs, and use a FirstnameLastnameStyle.jpg naming convention. Please ensure your image is at least 800px wide and no larger than 3MB. 6. One submission per person. 7. Don’t skip the story part because it’s often the most enjoyable part for us all beyond the great photos!
