Watch How This Time-Expanding Car Commercial Was Painstakingly Stitched Together

It turns out Phantom cameras are useful for more than just destroying household items and blowing stuff up. This Fiat Abarth spot made use of the slow-motion wonder cam in this fantastical “still moving image” and the behind the scenes is pretty amazing.

Director Dave Hill and DP Brandon Lippard had every single element of the scene lit, posed, and photographed separately. Each shot was then rotoscoped and composited to create the dramatic football scene. It’s funny how short the takes are on set because the Phantom slows things down so much. It is literally a couple of seconds in between the director’s “action” and “cut” calls. [Vimeo via ISO 1200]
