Gimmicky or not, Sharp is not averse to wedging weird and new(ish) technologies into its phones. As such, it has teamed up with Japanese mobile phone peddler Softbank to release a phone that not only has a radiation detector but comes in eight Pantone-certified colours.
The “Pantone 5 107SH” is a 3.7-inch, Android phone that apparently is the first such phone to have a radiation detector. According to Ubergizmo, the radiation readings take about 10 seconds to process, and given what happened in Fukushima, it makes sense that a product would first pop up in the Japanese markets. If you happen to live in Japan, you might be interested to know that it has a 1.4GHz single-core Snapdragon CPU, a 4MP rear cam and 0.3MP front cam. It also happens to be waterproof and dustproof.
