Hot Air Balloons Find New Life As Temporary Art Space ‘Mind Igloo’

Commissioned by Mediamatic for the New Order festival, Netherlands-based DUS Architects’ “Mind Igloo” is a temporary art/architecture installation, made of two decommissioned hot air balloons, that explores the symbiosis of creative spaces and collective thinking.

Designed to play with the idea that there may come a time when a building’s very existence will be need-based and dependent on the cooperation of social groups, the interior space acts as a projection plane upon which images from participants’ smartphones — collected upon entry — are projected and shared for all to see. DUS Architects likens it to a “‘lay-in’, where people relax together and watch their communal, interior lives play out on a shared screen.” [Inhabitat]
