Hollywood Marketing Makes For A Great Use Of This Abandoned Paris Metro Station

Station Saint-Martin along Paris’s Metro Line 8 & 9 was closed in 1939, at the start of WWII, and although reopened once the war had ended, the station was ultimately shutter for good due its close proximity (100m) to another Metro station.

Since then, it has sat empty and unused, a seeming ghost land, another sooty stretch of tile and tracks.

So it was really pretty brilliant of 20th Century Fox to turn this tunnel into a sort of installation-art advertisement for the new Ridley Scott movie “Prometheus”. From May 16-25, travellers passing through the decommissioned station will see a spotlit still-life display, set up to look like “the cave where the team of scientists from the spaceship Prometheus discover the origins of humanity.”

I wonder how New York City’s underground homeless community would feel about having their ghost tunnels co-opted by Hollywood…
