Teens today! What are they even saying on those new-fangled computer phones? LOL, amirite? Parents just can't keep up with all those crazy indecipherable abbreviations swift-thumbed kids are tapping at every hour of the day. Good thing this handy primer of 92 commonly text terms exists. If only it weren't packed with phrases no one's ever heard of.
Most of the acronyms compiled by Tecca sound totally invented, like the messages my mum sent me when she first texting and just didn't quite get it yet. At the most, you probably know a quarter of them. Here are some of the highlights, in the event you need some new shorthand for your SMS vernacular.
DWBH: Don't worry, be happy GLHF: Good luck, have fun. HAND: Have a nice day. RAK: Random act of kindness. SSDD: Same stuff, different day. TIME: Tears in my eyes. VSF: Very sad face. WTPA: Where the party at? YMMV: Your mileage may vary. IANAL: I am not a lawyer.
I sent a few of these to my friends, just in case I'm the one who's out of touch. But none of them had any idea what was going on. Some of them didn't even respond. And you know what? I don't blame them, because what do you say to someone that sent you a text that simply reads "IANAL"? [Tecca via Time]
