Apple is reportedly rejecting apps for inclusion in its App Store because they use Dropbox’s software development kit.
PandoDaily reports that developers are complaining about the fact that third-party apps which use Dropbox’s software development kit to integrate document storage are being rejected by Apple.
Dropbox has told The Verge that “Apple is rejecting apps that use the Dropbox SDK because we allow users to create accounts”. However, it went on to explain that it is “working with Apple to come up with a solution that still provides an elegant user experience”.
The rejections do, however, seem to be inline with Apple’s existing rules, which state:
“Apps that link to external mechanisms for purchases or subscriptions to be used in the app, such as a ‘buy’ button that goes to a web site to purchase a digital book, will be rejected.”
Whether that stance is reasonable or not — and whether it’s just a mechanism through which Apple can strong-arm companies — is up for discussion. It’ll be interesting to see how this problem resolves itself. [PandoDaily]
