It’s all change at Yahoo. Out with Jerry Yang, ditching 2000 of its staff, and now an announcement that it plans to axe 50 of its online services. It really has got the bit between its teeth.
The announcement is the latest in a series of radical moves that the company hopes will turn around its fortunes. Yahoo CEO, Scott Thompson, explained to TechCrunch:
“Yahoo has been doing way too much for too long and was only doing a few things really well… Yahoo has built processes that were originally intended to help us scale but they’ve become way too complex and stifled innovation.”
It’s currently unclear which services will go — or be “consolidated” as Yahoo has also put it. There are, however, reports that it plans to focus its future on the most popular and ad-friendly outlets, including its News, Finance, Sports and Yahoo Mail platforms. [TechCrunch and The Verge]
