Clearly designed for Julia Child-types who prefer a modern twist on classic French cooking, La Cornue’s W stovetop, designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, looks like it was yanked from a quaint turn-of-the-century farmhouse in the French countryside.
But you won’t need to power it with a roaring fire or even hot coals. Its smooth glass surface actually hides four inductive burners laid out in an arc so there’s still plenty of space for preparing food. Even the stove’s dials have a lovely retro feel to them, so we’re hoping that even though the table was designed for the upcoming EuroCucina design show in Milan, it has a chance of actually going into production. Or at the least, there’s an Ikea designer that agrees with the idea that good artists copy, but great artists steal.
