Glow-In-The-Dark Dinosaur Coin Is Actual Legal Tender

Totally making up for the utterly annoying one and two dollar coins, the Royal Canadian Mint has created a series of limited edition glow-in-the-dark quarters featuring the likenesses of dinosaurs discovered in the country’s western provinces.

The first in the series is the admittedly forgettable Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai, but it instantly becomes awesome when you shut the lights off and the dino’s skeleton glows through its body. Who cares about that fancy new plastic money anymore? The only downside is that with a $30 price tag these won’t be going into regular circulation, though they can be used as legal tender at their 25c face value.

The Pachyrhinosaurus lakustai is the first of four dinosaur-themed coins the mint plans to release in its Prehistoric Creatures series, which will presumably also include Nortel and Research In Motion down the line. [Royal Canadian Mint via The Vancouver Sun]
