Stunning Battlestar Galactica: Blood And Chrome Trailer Leaks, TV Show Canned

I'm almost lost for words. For one, I somehow missed this super-slick trailer being leaked last week. What the frack was I doing that was more important? Now after watching it, I’m even more stunned at what the suits at Syfy are thinking: Blood And Chrome has been demoted to a web series only…

Of course, we heard this may be on the cards back in August, and when B&C was commissioned, it was actually originally envisioned as a 10-part webseries with 10-minute episodes. So this is more like the original plan…I guess. For its part, Syfi now says it’ll broadcast the feature-length pilot as a 'once-off' (presumably while it focuses on devolving into anything but a Sci-Fi channel).

Blood and Chrome is set 20 years after Caprica and roughly 40 years before Galactica. [io9]

Here’s the official synopsis:

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, the sentient robotic Cylons, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a young, talented fighter pilot, William Adama (Luke Pasqualino), finds himself assigned to one of the most powerful Battlestars in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica. Full of ambition and in pursuit of the intense action that the Cylon war promises, Adama quickly find himself at odds with Coker (Ben Cotton), the battle-weary officer to whom he reports. With 47 days left in his tour of duty, Coker desires an end to battle just as much as Adama craves the start of it. Though they clash at first, the two men forge an unlikely bond when a routine mission turns dangerous and becomes a pivotal one for the desperate fleet.

I can't believe Syfy. Why would they demote this to a web series? Battlestar Galactica (The new one, not the old one) is probably one of the most beautiful and amazing things I have ever had the pleasure of watching. I can say for a fact that series changed the way I look at the world and humanity, for the better.. It was just amazing and there is no way someone can understand what I am saying unless they too watch it all themselves.

And now they want to change this to a web series?? Really Syfy?? Please tell me what is so much better than Battlestar Galactica that you want to show on your horrible channel.. there is nothing even half good on there these days!

BSG is period the best scifi ever, better than Baylon 5. It was bad enough that got canned and Caprica was also superb and got canned and now ....

Sick of seeing top sci fi and horror treated with contempt. The list of amazing shows killed after 1 or 2 seasons is appalling. The worst example being the Sarah Connor Chronicles. It ends on the cliff-hanger, not even an attempt at a rapid tie up, just abandoned.

I believe SyFy, they're less Science Fiction and more Booger Eating Moron. Guess they're counting on the fake wrestling to carry them through now that they cancelled Eureka, which was one of their highest grossing shows ever. That's what happens when you put an exec with the mentality of a 4 year old in charge. Someone needs to start a real sci fi channel that is based on SCIENCE FICTION...but that won't happen, most of the moron execs can't spell it, let alone conceptualize it

How was BSG 'canned'? The show had a 4 season run, which was more than enough to wrap up all plotlines, something the producers planned for well before it aired. Thank god it was only limited to 4 seasons, or they could have easily dragged it to 10 with no closure. Caprica was pretty terrible and was rightly canned.

As for these other shows you mention, Sarah Connor Chronicles was another show of questionable quality that didn't generate the ratings needed to keep it alive. The most noticeable examples are probably Firefly, SGU and Enterprise. Yes, it's a tragedy that Firefly was axed, but it's Fox. What do you expect? As for SGU, that show was over-hyped, over-budget and when the ratings dwindled, the producers had internet tantrums, blaming the people who did or didn't watch it for the low ratings, instead of writing a better show that didn't shamelessly ape BSG. Enterprise was an abortion that should never have been made in the first place.

There are far more egregious examples of premature canning that aren't sci-fi. Arrested Development and Deadwood were both axed well before their times. And the latter came down to a budgetary issue. Community's circling the drain, and I'd easily let 10x Capricas get axed before Community.

Actually, SGU was one of my favourites. It started slow but the second season was really good and the ending just tore me up. I found it way more interesting than Atlantis. I also liked Enterprise and thought it was a pretty good refreshing take on the Star Trek universe. As for Community, I'd rather have my eyeballs torn out than watch it. I'm a Chevy Chase fan but seeing him in this is just so sad. I guess it's a case of each to their own!

This trailer looks absolutely awesome and I would hate to think that much effort has gone into something they are already getting ready to throw away.

Couldn't have said it better! Besides the brilliant Battlestar Galatica and Caprica, the last good thing Syfy has done was the Dune movies. If this sequel doesn't happen, we will have to contact Mr. Jackson!

What is syfy thinking!?! This looks amazing. The new BSG was IMO one of the best series ever made. This makes me want to go back and watch my bluray box set all over again. This would surely be a decent enough hit to warrant more than webisodes....

+1. Watched it as it came out and was continually blown away; re-watched the whole thing with commentary on BRD; could definitely go for another re-watch, preferably with someone who's never seen it before.

Caprica was also awesome. Moar from this universe!!

Just you wait. It will start with "This video is not available in your region" and will end with rampant piracy of it. At least a TV show might have reached a bigger audience once it hit networks...

This is what happens when frakin educated people decide.

syfy canned Farscape too, they're cretins.

      Farscape was terrible.

F'Off Farscape was boss! working my way through Blu-ray as we speak. Wish they would start it up again...

Give it enough fan support and it could make the leap back to a full series. Sanctuary started as a web series and Syfy has given it several seasons...

No comparison, Sanctuary is an independent production both as a web series and a TV series. Blood & Chrome is a NBCU production.

Let's not get too carried away here. I mean, all the trailer really shows is a series of rapidly cut together effects shots. We don't see any any dialogue, so we can't really judge the acting, or the writing... it doesn't even tell us all that much about the plot. I realise it's a teaser trailer, and it's not supposed to give much away, but that's exactly my point. We don't know whether it was actually any good yet.

I know SyFy has a reputation for cancelling good shows while renewing complete shit, but for all we know this *could* be terrible, in which case they'd be right to cancel it. After all, everything outside of the main series hasn't been that great (Razor was average, The Plan was bad, and Caprica was worse), so there's certainly a precedent.

I'm not saying it *would* have been bad, I'm just saying let's not jump down SyFy's throat until we've actually seen the final product.

I'll take an average Razor and a Bad Caprica and The Plan over endless stargate and star trek reruns anyday of the week thanks ;D

razor and the plan coulda been fine if properly cut and caprica basically shoulda never gotten past a pilot. with that said, i can honestly say im amazed at the absulute aww everyone evokes about the 4 seasons.... the galactica pilot was great as was season one and two....season three started well and then began to derail. it never recovered and season 4 was terrible with all these assurances that there was a point to it all....REALLY? WHERE?!. the series should have ended on the dead planet when the cast was sitting around broken and without hope. that ending would have made more sense than what finally came in the series finale. blood and chrome will likely not be kept going , dispite of and completely regardless of its quality or lack thereof, and we will all buy the special edition dvd's and blu rays.... like we all ALWAYS do.

Razor was an amazing story to explain the whole Admiral Cain timeline and as a fan of the original show I still get chills when the old centaurian says to his gold leader cylon "By your command"

I really despise this trailer. They shamelessly ripped off the Girl from the Dragon Tattoo, down to the quick edits and the text flash at the end (THE FEEL BAD MOVIE). If the best face they can put on to whet appetites is as creatively bankrupt as this trailer, I'm not holding my breath for the show.

Oh, and THAT'S Adama? That twinky little kid? What was so wrong with the actor they used for Razor, which was set at the same time. That guy actually looked tough, resembled Olmos and had the recognisable scars.

oh, and syfy is a joke...the name change sounded its death .... at this point its no better than fox. bring back firefly!

Sorry max, don't agree with you..... Razor, The Plan and Caprica were all very good and BSG great!

    argh, my ears!
    horrible horrible quality audio...

WTF! SyFy is choosing to condemn this epic chapter of BSG goodness to mere webisodes? Well SyFy as they say here in Australia..."get a Cylon up ya...ya Bastards!"

TV sucks so bad these days and anything good doesn't stand a chance. we live in a world full of idiots who would rather watch fat people run around with personal trainers

I really don't understand how they can so badly underestimate the Science Fiction audience as a whole. We are a huge demographic and we keep getting shafted by people who think nobody will watch it, and thus it won't make any money. At the other end of the spectrum they keep pushing out crap like Knight Rider.

"We are a huge demographic and we keep getting shafted by people who think nobody will watch it"

You honestly think that? SyFy's entire catalogue and the Fox/CBS offerings (Sarah Connor Chronicles, Jericho, Firefly) are an attempt at sci-fi. They wouldn't make pilots for these shows, let alone fund entire seasons if they weren't giving it a chance or think they would succeed.

You underestimate the support these shows get from studios, especially given the typically large Sci Fi budget. The problem, is that no-one DOES watch them. Huge demographic... on the internet. There's a difference between people raving on about them on message boards and actual ratings and thus potential subscribers or advertisers. Just look at the Pirate Bay's most popular downloads a few years ago, the most recent BSG episode always topped the list.

Obviously not everyone pirates these shows, but their fans are typically more internet-savvy than the CBS sitcom audience. Combine this with very limited mainstream appeal... It's incorrect to say these shows aren't given a chance. They are, they just never earn the eyeballs to justify their budgets and it's easy but unfair to blame some studio fatcat.

Whilst that's all true, it's a myth to suggest that if Joe "Sci-fi Fan" Bloggs watched on his telly instead of online then it would make the blindest bit of difference, unless he's one of the 0.02% of US viewers with a Nielsen box. The entire ratings system is a complete sham, yet it drives advertising and consequently series success. Which is... frustrating. Firefly & SGU in particular were STAGGERINGLY AMAZING, but this is not represented in these meaningless "viewing figures", so they get cut-off. The network develops the notion that Sci-Fi, which is expensive to produce, isn't going to make them any money in return (which, due to ratings driving advertising, is true) .. and suddenly _nothing_ gets a decent run. Enterprise, Caprica, SG-1/SGA movies, now B&C not given the ground to grow and succeed because if the epic shows can't make it, then what chance do these good/potential shows have?

What we need is to take the Nielsen boxes away from the morons who watch "American Idol" and give them to people who watch actual TV. It's the only way. Otherwise we're simply doomed, with no chance of coming back from this TV abyss that intelligent people have fallen into. It breaks my heart but there it is.

When I win £140million in the EuroMillions I'll fund SGU and B&C myself. Must be able to get a couple of episodes out of that, right? :/

with that money you could produce a couple of seasons. The joke is that you could actually make money. But i'm not going to tell you as I have a plan for something like this when/if i win. :-)
It's quite simple all the key words/aspect have been mentioned in the comments here.

Do the executives who changed the name realise that "SyFy" looks like shorthand for "syphilis" or "syphiletic"? I don't think they do.

Syfy's decisions and programming continue to baffle me. I can't believe they don't want to try and capitalize off one of their most successful series ever in BSG.

Maybe the campaign should start right now ...

That is a complete rip off of the trailer for "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo". That music and cut style makes any movie look good. There's a bunch of parody trailers on Youtube. Have a look and see what it does to very average movies.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the SyFy channels upcoming reality TV show line-up.

WOW!!!!! i hope it gets commissioned, looks soo cool

Dude, it's frakking 'f-r-a-k', not 'f-r-a-C-k'! Frak! Get it right, man. Noob.

first used (with the spelling "frack") in the original Battlestar Galactica series. It continues to be used throughout different versions of the franchise as an expletive.

Maybe i'm just old school ;)

B+C will hopefully be as good as BSG and Caprica which were great!

Lost me at the Led Zep cover. Disgusting job whoever is responsible.

Maybe if SyFy showed robot wrestlers instead then everyone would be happy.

For the love of the Gods, man. Learn to frakking spell 'frak' right. There's no frakkin' 'c'.

Syfy is going to f**k it all up like they always do.
I love scifi sooooo much and i haaaate syfy sooooooooo much!
Bunch of idiots that they are...... its frustrating, i can't even enjoy scifi anymore without thinking that they will cancel it if its good.

This is a great teaser trailer, it resembles the collage of action before each episode of BSG that Tattoo obviously ripped off. It looks, tastes, smells and sounds like BSG which unfortunately Caprica didnt. I dont want this to appeal to mainstream, I dont want it to be able to sell tyres, sports drinks or cornchips. If need be put it straight out on BluRay, give us the alternative to going to the net. I held off the last season until I got the Bluray box set and started right back at the start. There is a huge hole in my viewing and I need Blood and Chrome for its adult action, sex, violence and story telling
