Photo filters are fine, I suppose, but the idea of having an app that can pixelate the shit out of a photo in any number of ways sounds like even more fun. Enter pxl.
These aren’t just 8-bit squares we’re talking about either. You can break down and abstract images into isometric cubes, triangles, dots, bars, text-based characters and more. And what I love most about the app is its intent, which creator Rainer Kohlberger expressed so wonderfully in a quote to Co.Design’s Mark Wilson:
“We’re living in a time where we’re a bit obsessed with nostalgia, not too many new aesthetics are emerging these days, but we are finding ways to always remix and recombine already established ideas to create something new out of them.”
Amen. I’m all for embracing the digital times we live in. Pxl is available in the iOS App Store for $0.99. [iTunes via Co.Design]
