LG Shows Off Seamless Voice To Video At MWC

Voice calling is something we’re all very familiar with. Likewise, video chat, while significantly newer, is still something of a known commodity. What you haven’t been able to do is mix the two on the fly — until now.

At MWC in Barcelona, LG’s shown off a proprietary technology that allowed users on an LTE network to flick between voice and video calling on a single dialled connection. While it’s LG’s own technology under the hood, LG states that it’s compliant with the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Profile for Conversational Video Service, the industry standard for the delivery of both voice and data over LTE.

LG’s clearly hoping to make its technology the standard technology for such calls; LG’s release quotes Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG as stating that

“The LTE sector is advancing at light speed and our voice-to-video conversion technology is in the best position to be adopted industry-wide.”
