How The App Store’s Gunning For Your Dollars

Ahead of today’s Apple announcement, the company has started putting catalogues in their own category in the App Store. Is Apple plotting a new way for us to use its devices to shop?

The new catalogues category isn’t yet listed with the others, but a simple search of the App Store shows that many apps from retailers have already been switched over to the new silo. Previously, catalogues were listed as Lifestyle apps. It’s interesting that the company has isolated shopping as a separate category in the App Store. Aside from providing you with a handy way to search for (or avoid) apps geared towards your retail dollars, the new category could indicate that Apple has plans to introduce a new shopping platform or changes to in-app purchases.
