By incorporating a pneumatic cylinder and a special split-pivoting frame, Bill Becker, a retired assembly line worker, has created the Elev8 bike which is promised to be considerably easier for older folks to mount and ride.
The bike’s seat is attached to a unique pivoting arm that can be raised and lowered by about 17cm with a simple push of a lever on the handlebars. It not only makes the bike easier to get on and off of, but the height can be adjusted while in motion so the rider can ensure that they’re able to put both feet flat on the ground when coming to a stop.
There’s no pricing information yet since the bikes won’t be available for purchase until April, but the company will offer two models with a 61cm or 66cm wheel. [Elev8Bikes via Core77]
