It’s been a successful morning for Motorola in Germany. So far they’ve managed to secure a permanent injunction against Apple’s iCloud, as well as seeing the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and first-gen 3G iPad removed from the online store.
The two results are actually over seprate legal issues. First, Engadget reports that Judge Andreas Voss issued a permanent injunction against iCloud and any devices that use it, following a complaint that Motorola filed in April 2011. It only applies to Germany, and is a result of some of the sync methods Apple use.
Elsewhere, The Verge reports that Apple has removed 3G iPads, iPhone 3GS, and iPhone 4 devices from its online German store over a patent held by Motorola essential to the GPRS standard used in the Apple devices. The iPhone 4S and iPad 2 use different chipsets, which means the problem doesn’t apply to them.
No doubt Apple will be appealing over both cases, but in the meantime the German market just took a bit of a hit. [The Verge and Engadget]
