If you own a website, it’s probably a good idea to renew your domain name right now. In fact, it’s probably a good idea to renew your domain name for as long as is fiscally responsible for you. Three years? Five years? Whatever, go do it! We don’t want your website ending up like The Bay Citizen, which currently routes to an embarrassing GoDaddy landing page.
The Bay Citizen, if you didn’t know, is normally a respectable non-profit local newspaper for the San Francisco Bay Area. Not today though, it’s front page has become a mockery. Somebody at the paper forgot to renew the company’s domain name and let GoDaddy take it over, plastering GoDaddy’s creepy mascot and 90s’ flare all over its pixels. How does that happen! Don’t they email you months in advance before your deadline? Come on, Bay Citizen, this ain’t amateur hour.
Anyways, let’s laugh at The Bay Citizen for its oversight and use its embarrassing moment as a lesson to renew your domain names whenever you can. You don’t want your glorious personal weblog to become a tacky frontpage for the devil that is GoDaddy, do ya? [Bay Citizen via Jim Romenesko]
