Who Needs Headphones When You’ve Got Ludacris’ Party In A Box?

With the proliferation of phones and tablets as the primary listen devices for music, some producers go so far as to mix their tracks for tiny mono speakers, *cough*Akon*cough*. Others take the opposite approach, bypassing these tiny tweeters in favour of streaming the tunes to something a bit more robust.

Dubbed the Party in a Box (yes, really), this speaker dock from Soul Electronics — Ludacris’ audio equipment line — has enough clearance to directly accommodate an iPad but also offers three other means of connectivity. It’s AirPlay compatible, has Bluetooth connectivity for streaming from non-Apple sources, and even includes a 5.8GHz transceiver that can stream uncompressed CD audio or allow the PIAB to daisy-chain in with other wireless speakers.

The included HDMI port lets you hook it the speakers up to a TV or projector for movie night while the balanced MIC channel allows the PIAB to pull double duty as a block-rocking PA system. The PIAB employs dual 6.5-inch subwoofers, two 3-inch midrange speakers and a set of four 1-inch tweeters. The entire system runs off a 110/240V power supply, 12V cigarette-lighter adaptor, or its optional, rechargeable batteries. There’s no word yet on pricing or availability.
