Whited00r Looks Like iOS5 But Runs On Apple Legacy Hardware

Just because that old iPod touch of yours is already obsolete, it doesn’t mean it’s automatically useless — it just needs some sprucing up. Whited00r 5.1 brings iOS 5 looks — and some of its functionality — to Apple devices running iOS 3.1.3.

The latest iteration of Whited00r, version 5.1, is one of the fastest custom OS’s available — reportedly optimising your old tech up to nearly iPhone 3GS speeds. In addition, it allows the creation of application folders, custom home screen backgrounds, Newsstand functionality and native reminders — though no Notification Center, sorry. Version 5.1 even has a faux-iCloud storage system that instead employs Dropbox.

Obviously, this jailbreak isn’t exactly Apple canon given its fair share of copyright infringement and security exploits to the OS 3.1.3 architecture (which also potentially leave the device vulnerable to other, malicious hacks.) But, as long as you’re cool with that, Whitd00r 5.1 is available to breathe some extra life into your tired, old tech. [Whited00r via iPod News Network]
